Active Tots sessions run in Bognor Regis, Chichester and Horsham.
We have Multiskills and Football focused sessions. By encouraging young children (2 – 5yrs) to enjoy a range of physical activities and experiences – supported by a parent or carer – we aim to support the development of a positive attitude to being active which will remain with the individual throughout their life. Our excellent coaches understand the developmental needs of these youngsters, and appropriate activities are always well planned, whilst ensuring flexibility to meet the needs of each child. Friday Night Football sessions run in Bognor Regis (5-7yrs) and Horsham (5-12yrs) Having positive, fun sporting experiences from an early age enables girls and boys to develop the skills they need not only for football, but also in many sporting activities. Providing them with a firm foundation for future competitive sport supports development of a community ethos. Sessions always include skills training and matchplay, but also may include working with a partner, or as part of a small team, understanding how to communicate appropriately, learning to compete within the rules, expectations of game play, and good sportsmanship. Girls Football sessions aimed specifically at KS2 girls are running from Handcross Primary School in partnership with Active Sussex. Although girls are often keen to learn and develop their footballing skills it can be daunting to join in with boys who often have had more experience of playing and whose skills are sometimes further developed. These sessions provide the ideal opportunity to upskill, and provide the coaching needed in a positive, fun environment. With their improving skills and growing confidence the girls will then be in a position to seek opportunities to play girls football within their local community, through their school or local clubs, or to join a mixed team (up to the end of KS2). Community Basketball sessions are running this spring/summer outdoors in partnership with Active Sussex who provide funding, and Arun District Council who provide the courts free of charge. These sessions have proved very popular and are usually run in three age categories (6-7 yrs, 8–11 yrs and 12–16 yrs). Planned sessions to support skills development at an appropriate level ensure all participants have an enjoyable experience. Valuable, transferable skills, such as co-operation and sportsmanship enhance the experience for all the individuals who participate in this community project. In close partnership with Active Sussex we are trialling some funded places for targeted pupils in our Holiday Camps at Easebourne Primary School this Easter. Children will also receive a healthy packed lunch provided by a local business. We are excited to be finding new ways to support parents and carers and thank both Active Sussex and the Headteacher at Easebourne Primary School Johnny Cullen for collaborating on this important project. Our hope is that we will soon be able to extend this funding for vulnerable pupils to other Holiday Camps in the next few months.
